Shaping the Future of Product Development at Funnel: Part 2 with Marketa Thylander Trnkova
Marketa recently started at Funnel as an engineering manager. With over ten years of experience in product development and a passion for creating user-centric products that solve real problems and generate value - it was an easy decision to offer her a role in our product development leadership team. In this blog post, Marketa will share her insights on being a new leader at Funnel.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your role in the company?
I recently joined Funnel as an engineering manager. In this role, I collaborate closely with the teams, helping them remove blockers, move forward, and set up processes that will make their work easier.
As part of the engineering leadership team with Sofia, I work closely with our colleagues in product and design. I work with two teams. One is responsible for setting up users and workspaces in Funnel, and the other takes care of the overall flow for connecting new sources. We work closely with other development teams and with our customers to understand how we can improve our product.
We are responsible for everything related to the code's implementation, deployment, and monitoring. In addition to working closely with our product and design colleagues, we also work closely with our support team at Funnel since we handle technical product support.
What did you do before joining Funnel?
I worked in the market research industry and have a background in both engineering and product management. My career in this field began in 2007 when I transitioned to the role of Product Development Manager after spending eleven years in various roles within the banking industry.
The shift happened naturally while I was collaborating with the development department on pricing questions. My interest in the development side of things grew, and I was offered the opportunity to join the team as a Product Development Manager due to my knowledge and insight into pricing strategies. I said yes because I like to say yes to things that are a bit crazy and challenging.
Tell us how you ended up at Funnel?

Wanting to continue working within the market research-related industry, I was drawn to Funnel, one of the leading marketing intelligence platforms for marketers. Funnel is well known for its forward-leaning ways of working in the product development department.
The recruitment process was very quick and straightforward, especially compared to others I have experienced. I appreciated the clear communication throughout the process, including timely feedback and a well-defined outline of the next steps.
After joining, what were your first impressions of Funnel?
During the recruitment process, I noticed that the company’s values, as described in conversations, were genuinely reflected in the actions and behavior of the people I met. Their friendliness and openness stood out to me. The culture was the main reason I chose Funnel, and it has exceeded my expectations since joining.
I’ve truly enjoyed getting to know my colleagues at Funnel. They are not only friendly but also passionate about collaborating as a team.
The product development department is growing at Funnel. What kind of people are we looking for and what is important to be successful at Funnel?

Additionally, sharing learnings and mistakes, and being able to ask for help are essential. We believe in being courageous and unafraid to make bold decisions.
