From Beauty to Office: Stephanie’s Path from the Beauty Industry to an Office Coordinator
Stephanie joined Funnel three years ago as an Office Coordinator, transitioning from a career in the beauty industry. In this blog post, she shares her journey into a new field, how her past experiences have shaped her role, and what keeps her motivated every day. Additionally, she offers a glimpse into what a typical day as an Office Coordinator at Funnel looks like.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
My name is Stephanie, and for the past three years, I’ve been working at Funnel as an Office Coordinator, alongside Emma and Josefin in the Office & Event team.
Before joining Funnel, I spent most of my career in the beauty industry. While I loved that, I eventually felt the need to challenge myself in a new direction, where I could still connect with people but also use my organizational skills in a different setting.
During my job search, I found an Office Coordinator position at Funnel on LinkedIn. Everything about the role resonated with me, and when I saw the phrase, “Are you our next unicorn?” At the end of the job description, I knew I had to apply. After a successful recruitment process, I was offered the role, and I haven’t looked back since. Working at Funnel has been an exciting and fulfilling experience, and I’m grateful to be part of such an amazing team.
Why did you decide to switch from the beauty industry and pursue a new career path?
I’ve always been a naturally curious person, and that curiosity has driven much of my career journey. In the beauty industry, I spent many years honing my skills, first as a freelancer for about 7 years, where I learned to trust my instincts and creativity while working independently. I later became a certified lash and brow artist, working in a beauty salon for 5 years. Those years were incredibly fulfilling—I loved the artistry, the connection with clients, and the confidence I could help others achieve through my work.
When I started looking for new opportunities, I sought a role that would allow me to continue making meaningful connections with others while also expanding my professional horizons. That’s when I came across the Office Coordinator position at Funnel. It seemed like the perfect blend of what I was looking for—a chance to bring my people skills and organizational abilities to a new environment, and to grow in ways I hadn’t yet explored. The transition has been rewarding, and it’s allowed me to bring a fresh perspective and energy to my work every day.
What does a normal day look like in your role?
My day at Funnel begins at 7:00 AM when I arrive at the office. I start by walking through the office, ensuring everything is in order and that the coffee machines are up and running, so everything is ready for when people start to arrive.
From that point on, my day can take any number of directions. It might involve welcoming guests, coordinating with maintenance staff, or handling last-minute tasks for an upcoming event. One of the things I love most about my job is that no two days are ever the same. There’s a mix of planned projects and unexpected challenges that keep things interesting. That variety, combined with the satisfaction of knowing I’m helping create a smooth and welcoming environment, makes every day great.
Are there any skills from your previous experience in the beauty industry that have been most valuable in your role as an Office Coordinator?
Absolutely. My experience in the beauty industry gave me skills that have been invaluable in my role as an Office Coordinator at Funnel. First, the ability to multitask was essential when managing multiple clients, appointments, and tasks in the beauty industry, and that skill has seamlessly transferred to coordinating office activities, events, and daily operations at Funnel.
Second, attention to detail was crucial in ensuring that every client received the best possible service. Whether it’s crafting the perfect brow shape or making sure every aspect of an office event runs smoothly, noticing the small things makes a big difference.
Lastly, making people feel seen and understood is a skill that transcends industries. In beauty, it’s about understanding a client’s needs and building trust. In the office, it’s about creating a welcoming environment where everyone feels valued. There’s a lot of psychology involved when working with people, regardless of the setting, and understanding that dynamic has been a huge asset in my current role.
What’s the most rewarding part of your job?
The most rewarding part of my job is seeing the impact that the work my team and I do has on our colleagues and the overall office environment. Whether it’s organizing events in the office or making improvements around the office that enhance everyone’s daily experience, it’s incredibly fulfilling to know that our efforts are making a difference.
What makes it even more special is when our colleagues take the time to express their appreciation. Hearing that the events we host are memorable or that the office feels more welcoming because of our work really reinforces the value of what we do. It’s a great feeling to know that our hard work is not only noticed but also genuinely appreciated by those around us.
