Bridging Tech and Business: Refat's Journey at Funnel
Refat joined Funnel in 2021, starting in a business development role before transitioning to the Solutions team. In this blog post, he shares his journey, discussing how Funnel has supported his career growth and personal development.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself, your role in the company, and how you found Funnel?
I’m originally from Bangladesh and moved to Sweden five years ago. After completing my Bachelor’s in Engineering in Bangladesh and my Master’s in the U.S., I worked in various roles across multiple countries, which gave me a wide range of experience. I joined Funnel in 2021, drawn in by the company’s culture and growth potential.
I discovered Funnel on LinkedIn while exploring new opportunities after the startup I was working at went bankrupt due to the impact of COVID-19. What stood out to me during the interview process was how the team was genuinely interested in getting to know me as a person. The emphasis on company culture and the growth trajectory really resonated with me, and these were just two of the many reasons I knew Funnel was the right fit.
You joined Funnel in a business development role and after a year, you moved into the Solutions team. What inspired that transition?
I’ve always been drawn to roles that blend technical expertise with business impact. My experience as a Sales Engineer helped me develop that balance, and the Solutions role at Funnel felt like a natural progression. Here, I get to dive into the product while helping customers use it to drive value for their businesses. That’s what inspired my move into the Solutions team.
What does a normal day look like for you in the Solutions team?
A typical day usually starts with a team meeting where we discuss ongoing customer challenges and share insights from previous calls. Since we collaborate closely with both Sales and Customer Success, a large part of my day involves supporting them in technical conversations with prospective or existing customers.
Throughout the day, we might have several customer calls, helping them understand how Funnel’s product can address their specific needs. Between calls, there’s a lot of collaboration within our team to solve any technical challenges that arise. We also work closely with the Product Development team, providing feedback to ensure the product continues to evolve in a way that meets our customers’ needs.
The role requires constant learning, which is one of the things I love most about it. Every day presents new challenges, and I feel like I’m growing with each one.
How do you collaborate with other teams within Funnel?
The Solutions team sits at the intersection of the Revenue and Development teams, playing a key role in both customer-facing and internal discussions. We support the Sales team by serving as trusted advisors during the sales process, and we assist the Customer Success team with any technical challenges customers encounter post-sale.
At the same time, we gather valuable feedback from our customer interactions, which we pass on to the Development, Product & Design teams. This ensures the product continues to evolve in line with our customers’ needs and expectations. It’s a continuous cycle of feedback, learning, and improvement, making cross-team collaboration essential to our success.
Lastly, for someone looking to pursue a career in solution consulting, what advice would you give?
I’d offer two key pieces of advice: First, stay curious. In solution consulting, you’ll encounter new challenges daily, and you won’t always have the answers right away. Curiosity and a willingness to learn are essential, as you’ll need to adapt and find solutions on the fly.
Second, have a genuine desire to help people. In this role, you’re not just solving technical issues - you’re helping both customers and internal teams achieve their goals. If you approach the role with a sincere interest in making others’ lives easier, you’ll find it incredibly rewarding.
