Analytics Engineer
Why This Role Matters
Internal Data & Analytics (IDA) is a centralised data function within the Product Development organisation. Our purpose is to facilitate a move to a decentralised data architecture that will put trustworthy, high-quality, and actionable data in the hands of every Funnel employee. We are expected to have a solid understanding of how our business operates, a strong sense of what our organisation needs, and a proactive mindset.
Our role spans both building software and serving analytics needs. While this role is officially titled "Analytics Engineer," it encompasses responsibilities that go beyond traditional analytics engineering. Depending on priorities, your focus may shift between data engineering, analytics engineering, and descriptive analytics.
We are a relatively new and small team with a lot of room for creativity within our problem space. As part of IDA, you can make a noticeable impact by helping more colleagues leverage analytics in their daily work and driving the data maturity of our organisation forward. Along the way, there will be plenty of opportunities to learn and grow in the fields we operate in—a pursuit we expect and encourage at Funnel.
What You’ll Do
As a team member of IDA, you will operate at the intersection of Data Engineering, Analytics Engineering, and Data Platform Engineering. Your key responsibilities include:
Data Engineering:
Design, develop, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines to process and integrate data from other teams and systems into our team infrastructure.
Collaborate with stakeholders to define, document, and implement data governance policies, ensuring compliance and quality.
Data Product Delivery:
Model the output of our pipelines into quality data assets that are ready for self-serve analytics.
Act as a technical advisor to teams looking to implement their own data solutions in a federated data ownership model.
Descriptive Analytics:
Serve insights and best practices in order to drive adoption of data products and features.
Platform Development:
Research and implement modern data engineering best practices (e.g., CI/CD processes, infrastructure as code, quality assurance).
Maintain and improve our architecture to ensure it is best in class and built to last.
Develop an efficient infrastructure on AWS that complies with our data security policies and certifications.
Team Collaboration:
Be a willing collaborator, identify opportunities to support others, and offer timely help.
Seek and provide feedback through code reviews, retrospectives, and strategic discussions.
Learn by doing, share knowledge with others, and try out new things that could grow the team's skillset.
Promote the team's achievements, engage with our stakeholders, and drive adoption of our products.
What We’re Looking For
Strong SQL skills and experience building and maintaining data pipelines (ETL/ELT) in a cloud-based environment (e.g., GCP, AWS).
Proficiency in Python for data processing, automation, or API integrations.
Hands-on experience with modern data stack tools (e.g., dbt, Airflow, or similar).
Knowledge of data modelling techniques, particularly for analytics and business intelligence.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams.
A problem-solving mindset with a passion for delivering actionable insights.
